Do you feel like something is missing in your life?
We are all born with a life purpose. Each of us is unique and we all have a special role to fill, that no one else can do. When we discover, acknowledge and act on that, we feel fulfilled. When we don’t, we feel as if we are wandering through life, just going through the motions. And that’s what gives you the feeling that something is missing.
In my last article I wrote about life purpose as the path to your spiritual growth. In this article I’ll explore life purpose as your life’s work, or unique contribution.
People everywhere are realizing that they want their career to be about more than a paycheck, and rightly so. People desire work that is engaging, fun, and what they feel passionate about. They want their unique talents and skills to be utilized. When all of this comes together, you are on purpose and your life will be filled with joy, vitality and abundance.
Meaningful Work
As humans, we feel a need for our work to be meaningful. When we do work we love we increase the flow of abundance in our lives. When we force ourselves to do something that isn’t meaningful to us, we actually diminish the flow. You’ll see that show up in your finances and often in your health. Make a decision now that you deserve to do what you love and the people (or animals, or environment) you are meant to serve deserve it too.
Your work can change over the years as you grow. What was once an expression of your purpose may not be so now. Each time you make a change, you will still utilize your talents and skills, but in new ways.
For example, my purpose is to inspire people be the best version of themselves and live joyfully. I started out as a social worker, working in a group home for “delinquent” girls (mostly they had come from bad situations and no one had cared for them), then worked as a social worker and client advocate in a mental hospital. After my son was born, I got certified as a lower elementary Montessori teacher and taught for many years. Now, I’m a life coach. As you can see, there is a theme running through all of these that reflects my purpose in various ways and utilizes my talents and skills.
On the flip side, you don’t necessarily have to change jobs to be doing your purpose. You can spread good feelings, encouragement and touch people with your open heart no matter where you are. If you already like what you do, simply determine what you can do to add more light and a higher vibration to the work environment.
Purpose can be expressed through activities other than what we do for our livelihood
You don’t have to have a job or be in business to make a contribution. Many people fulfill their purpose through hobbies or activities in their community. Others find purpose within their family, guiding their children to be their best, or caring for an elderly or ill relative who needs help and a loving energy to uplift them. Your purpose could be about embodying and spreading the vibration of happiness wherever you go. That could include any job or no job at all.
How does your own spiritual growth and your unique contribution overlap?
As you pay attention to how your life is guiding you to understanding your purpose and you take action on it, you grow. You live life with more presence, consciousness and awareness.
“Enlightenment comes from learning to put awareness and consciousness into all you do, bringing the energy around you into greater harmony, beauty and order. Doing your life’s work provides a vehicle for your enlightenment and spiritual growth, for when you love what you do you naturally put attention and awareness into all your activities.”
