OK, that was fun! The scientific term for this is inattentional blindness. We see what we expect to see. And it makes an important point about how we create our experiences in the world. Law of attraction says that what we focus our attention on expands. Where we place our attention, our mental and emotional focus and our expectations matters. When we feel good about our lives we tend to be more open to the idea of possibilities. We expect good things to occur and opportunities to present themselves. When we are in struggle, madly paddling upstream against the current (in other words, not being in the higher flow of life) we don’t even see the opportunities and possibilities that present themselves.
One of my favorite teachers of Law of Attraction, Abraham, tells a story about Esther loosing her favorite, special designer pen, looking everywhere for it and not finding it. Her husband, Jerry, seeing her distress said, “Great! This is an opportunity to buy a new pen.” So, that’s what they did. As soon as Esther had the new pen and was feeling good, no longer focused on the thought that her pen was lost, the original pen turned up. And–it turned up in a place where she had looked several times. She simply had not been able to see it while she was out of alignment and believing it was lost.
So–where are you placing your attention? Are you having thoughts about how things just seem to work out for you and opportunities abound? Are you on the lookout for ways to get what you want that don’t necessarily require money and would be lots of fun? Do you expect success? Or, are you believing in scarcity of jobs, opportunities, money, love and happiness? Do you expect you have to struggle to get what you want? When you believe it’s hard to find a job that you like, it will be. You won’t even notice the neighbor at the party who is talking about needing to hire someone with just your skill set. You’ll walk by many opportunities in life because you simply won’t see them.
This is such a good example of how our beliefs shape our reality: If you don’t believe something is possible you won’t see it, even if it is right in front of you! Your higher self is constantly trying to help you out by placing opportunities in your path. Are you allowing them to be seen or not? What beliefs can you change to allow more of what you want to come easily into your life?

Clever video! You used it well to introduce your topic of the Law of Attraction and the concept of what we focus on expands. We have heard this truth many times. And yet we forget it when we are in the midst of our busy lives.
I find that the practice of segment intending taught by Abraham helps me keep a focused mind. I also look for ways to appreciate throughout the day. Reminders like yours help keep me on track.
Thanks, Mary Beth! Segment intending and appreciation are both fabulous ways to keep us in the higher flow so we see the opportunities in front of us!
